The Oromo Community cultural festival will be held on Sunday 18 December 2011 at Federation Square, Central Heart Melbourne of Australia. It is the fourth annual effort and opportunity for the Australian Oromo Community to renew Oromo traditions of paying homage to the motherland and create awareness of Oromummaa to the local community and the wider global village.

The first group of Oromo migrants consisting of three or four families arrived in Melbourne, Australia in 1984 and it was a big step in our community for today’s Oromo culture and identity activities  in Australia.

The Oromo are indigenous African people inhabiting the North Eastern part of Africa. Their country is called Oromia, which is currently under the domination of the Ethiopian colonial Empire.

The Oromo are descendants of the Eastern-Kushitie group of people indigenous to the Horn of Africa, with a population of over 40 million, which makes them one of the largest indigenous peoples of East Africa.
